Trash to Treasure

Can you believe someone was throwing this out?!?! I rescued this bench from the curb a few weeks ago. All it needed was a coat of stain...and some pretty pillows from The Christmas Tree Shop. It's perfect for my backyard next to the swing set to keep an eye on my little guy while he is playing.

Here I am in all my glory staining it last weekend : )

Keep those eyes peeled for treasures!!!

Best,

Eleanor

DIY Patriotic Wreath

Happy Memorial Day! How are you marking this important holiday and the unofficial start of summer? We'll be finishing up some outdoor projects and heading over to my parent's house for a little BBQ later today.

Earlier this week I started prepping my front porch decor for the holiday. A new addition this year is this wreath made out of tiny flag pics from Oriental Trading. The pics come 144 pieces to a box for $3.50. It took me about three and a half boxes to complete this project.

I started out with a floral foam ring from my local craft store. Then, you just find a good movie, sit, and press the flags in until the wreath is completely full and there is none of the ring showing.

I decided to mount mine to a grapevine wreath and hang on my antique sled that is still occupying a corner of my porch from winter. The hubby has been nagging me to put it away for the season, but I just love the way it looks on the porch. So until I find something else...it's stayin'...just sayin'.

Happy Memorial Day!

Vintage Ladder Blanket Holder

What a beautiful weekend it was! Perfect to do a little garage sale hunting. One item that I came across was this old 6ft. wood step ladder...

As soon as I saw it I thought it would PERFECT for hanging the throw blankets on in our family room. The throws in our family room have turned into exactly that...throw it over here, throw it over there. It was driving the OCD in me crazy. The guy wanted $10 for it, but I was able to get him down to $8. I took it home, removed the back of the ladder (that is the part I was after), sanded it down, gave it two coats of black spray paint, and distressed the edges a little with sand paper to give it more of a vintage feel.

Perfect! Now our throws have a place to hang (out).

Fun Graduation DIY Gift

It's that time of year again! Graduations and thus graduation parties galore. Here is a fun, inexpensive gift that your graduate is sure to love!

You can purchase this jar or a similar size one at Walmart for about $6-$10. They'll be able to reuse the jar at college to store supplies in. You'll want at least a 1/2 gallon jar to accommodate all the candy...and it's always nice to add a little cash in the center : )

Cut and paste the poem below into an MS Word document and customize for your graduate. I used a graduation cap from Clip Art to add a little somthin', somethin'.

"Look at you SMARTIE pants! You scored high in tests and reached the PAYDAY of graduation. Don't listen to SNICKERS that you are a DUM DUM or NERD, cuz you are one HOT TAMALE in this MILKY WAY, on (her) way to making 100 GRAND! Hope your summer is MOUNDS of fun! Lots of KISSES. (The Olander Family)"

Enjoy : )

Spring Front Porch Decor

Spring has finally sprung in the northeast! The Forsythia, Lilacs, Cherry Blossoms, and Magnolias are all in bloom. Simply gorgeous! Now I can open the windows up wide and get some much needed fresh air in the house...and pollen..lots and lots of pollen. Coating. Everything.

I figured since the summer front porch decor will be coming out of storage in a few weeks, I better post the spring pics : )
