Greetings from Sint Maarten

Last week we returned home from a fun-filled, sun-filled, 7-day trip to Sint Maarten in the Caribbean. When I say we, I mean Andy and I minus Logan...not that we left him in Sint Maarten...he stayed home. Not alone... Andy's Aunt Nancy graciously flew up from Florida to stay with Logan for the week. We love you Aunt Nancy!

Andy and I and two other couples stayed at the all-inclusive Sonesta Maho Beach Resort located on Maho Beach on the Dutch side of the island.

This large nine-story resort is in a fabulous location and the common areas of the hotel are beautiful. The front desk staff for the most part were completely of no help. Once you find the helpful staff, service isn't bad, your drinks are tasty and the food was pretty decent for an all-inclusive too. BUT, the guestrooms are in need of some SERIOUS updating. We decided we would go with a standard room when we made our reservation and not spend the extra money on an ocean view. Because, really...how much time do you spend in your room anyways?! So, I'd love to say that the picture at the top of the beautiful crystal clear blue Caribbean was our view. But no, this was our view...

...the water treatment plant and the brown golf course. Here are some other pics of our room. The lovely bidet, the safe with no lock, and the refrigerator that didn't refrigerate....but the bed was super comfy!

OK, enough about the hotel. Right across the street is the Casino Royal. Woo-hoo!!! Here we are making our nightly pilgrimage across the street to the casino...

It's lights motioning us in...come, come, come... SPEND, SPEND, SPEND!!! And my big take home...(drum roll please)...

The BEST dinner we had during our stay was at a great french restaurant next to the casino called Le Moulin Fou. Simply. Delicious.

Within walking distance of our hotel (on the other side of the brown golf course) is Mullet Bay. For $15, you can rent two comfy loungers and an umbrella. There is a fabulous little shack on the beach where you can get great ribs and adult beverages. I LOVED this beach.

One of the best perks of our location was the airport. You wouldn't normally think of being next to the airport as a "perk"...but, from the upper pool deck of our hotel you felt like you could reach out and touch the incoming jets. The runway lines right up to the beach, so when the planes take off you're sure to see drunken tourists lining up to get blown into the water from the jet engines. Way cool!!!!!

Down Maho beach from our hotel was the Sunset Beach Bar, voted #3 world's sexiest beach bar by The Travel Channel. This was prime viewing for watching all the airport activity. They even have a chalkboard surfboard with all the incoming flights for the day listed.. so you'll never miss your opportunity to get "blown". LOL

All in all, it was a great time. Now, where to go next year??? St. Lucia, Barbados??
